Enactus Germany in Senegal
November 8, 2023
Last week, our Country Leader, Oliver Faber, and Action With Africa Project Manager, Tobias Darda, embarked on an exciting journey to Senegal to expand our network, strengthen existing partnerships, and explore educational opportunities. Their clear objective was to bolster Enactus projects in Senegal and discover new horizons.
A significant focus of this trip was engaging in meaningful discussions with key stakeholders. This included dialogues with the GIZ, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and representatives from the German Embassy in Dakar. They were supported by our esteemed Country Leader of Enactus Senegal, Anna Sarr.
Another exciting opportunity for essential conversations was the meeting with the AfricaGreenTec team. Here, the discussions revolved around the potentials, education, startups, and their opportunities and risks in Senegal.
But that's not all! The absolute highlight of the journey was the visit to the RecyCoal team, a spin-off project of Enactus Aachen. Located in Diourbel, approximately two hours east of Dakar, they had developed a new prototype for the production of biochar, which has now entered the testing phase. This innovative approach can contribute to reducing and storing CO2 and producing Terra Preta, a valuable material that enhances soil's water retention capacity, ultimately leading to higher crop yields.

The next steps? Collaboration with an Enactus team in Senegal and close collaboration with the Enactus Köln project SaveTheGrain.
During their visit to Diourbel, Oliver and Tobias also had the opportunity to tour the facilities of the Sidio Group, including the workshop where RecyCoal and soon SaveTheGrain will be working. This marks an important step towards effective cooperation and a shared goal.
We wish RecyCoal continued success and hope they can establish many partnerships and valuable contacts. Together, we are shaping a better future!
